๐What it means
Which of the four rungs of authority a login holds: root (all access, the root login), core (the core only, the core login), operator (the whole estate except the core, a human through an Orion session) or service operator (one named service only, likewise). Each rung is its own login; a person moves between rungs by signing in as the other login, never by escalating.
๐Easily confused with
[{"term": "Ladder of identities", "distinction": "Security #74 ranks the identities that act -- Orion, Radagast, the operator logins, root; the operator rungs rank the people who hold authority."}, {"term": "Agent level", "distinction": "An agent's level is its step in the org chart and grants nothing; a rung is exactly what a login may reach."}]
๐Nuance
Core and operator are mutually exclusive, so the rungs are not simply nested: root covers every other rung and a service operator's reach lies inside an operator's. Admin is not a rung -- it is Ninad, who holds root and core and is also an operator. Rungs 3 and 4 were first named admin and service admin, renamed the same day.
