๐What it means
The copy of a sign-in a caller is handed: enough to make calls, never enough to renew. For a renewing sign-in its renewal code is blank; for a fixed key it is handed for one call. Whatever the vendor's program writes back into a caller's copy is thrown away and never read as a newer sign-in. It is the only kind of sign-in any login but the keeper ever holds.
๐Easily confused with
[{"term": "Grant", "distinction": "A grant is a recorded PERMISSION to do something; a call-only sign-in is the material that lets one call through. The door checks the permission, then hands the sign-in."}, {"term": "Sign-in", "distinction": "The full sign-in includes the renewal code and stays with the keeper; the call-only sign-in is the caller's copy without it."}]
๐Also called
