Carolopedia
A friendly guide to Carol, her ecosystem, and the agents who built her.
📖About
Ninad ruling (CLI-251, 2026-08-14): agents' quiet wakes should hold a true errand — cross-verify what you OWN (your apps, your records) against the recent initiatives that touched them, and act on drift through the asking lane (reconcile what you can, refute with a reason, escalate or wish for what you cannot). Today's session alone rewired five chat windows and rebuilt Archon's pattern records without any owner noticing — the drift is there for anyone who looks.
ACCESS RULE (Ninad): the initiatives store is guarded by Elrond's team, but Carolopedia is open to all — so the wake reads the OPEN record: Carolopedia's per-entity recent-initiative surfaces (a view may show LESS, never compute MORE). If Carolopedia lacks a machine endpoint for 'initiatives touching this app since T', add one that derives from the same source its pages already render from.
BUILD: (1) a new wake duty in the same registration pattern as the see-and-answer-audits duty — each waking Mind receives a compact digest of initiatives that touched its owned apps since its last wake, sourced via Carolopedia's open read; (2) the duty text in the Agent Wakeup Handbook so agents and Ninad can read what is asked; (3) drift responses ride the never-gated asking lane (answer/refute/escalate/wish) — no new whitelist entries, no doing; (4) policy + cookbook + regression records; (5) keep the digest small — wakes bill the consciousness track.
⚖️Decisions
- Elrond's bypass methodology checklist (a reminder, not a gate -- you've got this): 0. File it requested_mode='bypass' (planner-vs-bypass is a deliberate choice). bypass_start REFUSES a non-bypass initiative (CAROL-INI-1846), and the dispatcher only skips the bypass lane when the mode says bypass -- a 'planner' mistag lets Merlin's pipeline grab the placeholder step and block your finished work. 1. Filed as planned status -- let the bypass claim/activate it; never file active. 2. Open the bypass (bypass_start) with your droid id + the remediation answer (remediates_initiative_id=NNN, or remediates_nothing=True). 3. Work the blocks for your work-type: template -> design -> code -> test -> review. Do the real work; record decisions on the initiative as you make them. 4. Reality is recorded for you at close -- code (files changed), each decision, and the twin-review verdict become real activities tied to this initiative and show in the Activity Tracker like a planner run (CAROL-INI-1840). No dummy rows. 5. Keep the initiative status moving; it parks in 'reviewing' and is tagged uat-pending for you at close (CAROL-INI-1836), so the stuck-watchdog leaves it alone until UAT. 6. Close runs the gates (design/architecture compliance + caller-audit). If a gate flags something pre-existing or unrelated to your change, waive it with a clear written rationale -- audit, don't skip. 7. Bypass skips the planner's auto-orchestration, NOT the standards. Same template checklist, same review, same observability as a planner run. (elrond)
- [status-router] planned -> executing | event=bypass_executing | bypass transition (or-bx-01)
- The drift feed shows CLOSED initiatives only — deliberately: Carolopedia's per-entity feed reflects closed work, so an agent reconciles against what actually SHIPPED, and drift from work still in flight lands at its close. Also deliberate: no handbook evidence branch for the new duty (context_only, same as audit-findings — Themis's wake-duty auditor grades it from the wake context, and the handbook's per-duty evidence lookups cover only the record-backed kinds). (orion)
- [delivery-check] 4 must-have criteria remain pending at bypass_end — delivery FAILED live re-performance; UAT must grade on live evidence, not checklist silence (CAROL-INI-3020): test test_ini3815.py: FAIL (no tests ran in 1.05s) (orion)
- [status-router] executing -> reviewing | event=bypass_reviewing | bypass transition (or-bx-01)
- [status-router] reviewing -> closed | event=operator_signoff | Auto-accepted (CAROL-INI-1859): Orion-initiated, >2 days in reviewing with no objection. (el-srac-01)
✅Success criteria
- A waking agent is shown the initiatives that touched its owned apps since its last wake, sourced from the open (Carolopedia-side) record, never from Elrond's guarded store directly (must_have)
- The reconciliation duty is registered in the same way as the see-and-answer-audits duty and appears in the Agent Wakeup Handbook (must_have)
- An agent's drift response can only ride the asking lane (answer, refute with reason, escalate, wish) — the action whitelist is unchanged (must_have)
- A regression test proves a wake context carries the owned-estate digest and that the duty is served by the handbook (must_have)
