๐What it means
A sign-in that is one long-lived secret, as metered text vendors and the image, voice and video vendors use. It does not renew itself, so its keeper checks it daily with one real call rather than renewing it. Like every sign-in it is held by the keeper and handed out by the sign-in door for one call at a time, never read from a shared settings file.
๐Easily confused with
[{"term": "Renewing sign-in", "distinction": "A renewing sign-in has an access part that runs out and a single-use renewal code; a fixed key has neither and lasts until it is revoked."}, {"term": "Machine key", "distinction": "A machine key proves a laptop or server to the estate (held in its security chip); a fixed key proves the estate to a vendor."}]
