📖About & Usage
About
Infrastructure & Backups is Carol’s quiet safety net — the guarantee that, no matter what hiccup or mishap occurs, none of the digital memories stored across the ecosystem are ever truly lost. In plain terms, this service takes scheduled snapshots of every other service’s data, holds onto those copies according to defined retention rules, and can restore them when needed. It’s a behind‑the‑scenes cost‑center, meaning it doesn’t interact with users directly but charges per unit of data protected, all tracked under cost center CC‑003.
Right now, Infrastructure & Backups is still being built by Hagrid (Hagrid), the Keeper of Keys. Once it goes live, it will silently protect everything from chat logs in Carol Chat to the context windows of Carol Context — essentially the entire Carolverse. Because it’s an internal insurance policy, the service is designed to be as invisible as it is reliable, waking up only when a backup is due or a restore is called for.
Usage Patterns
This service doesn’t wait for someone to press a button. It fires on a regular, automated schedule, typically during quiet hours. Imagine a scenario: overnight, Infrastructure & Backups quietly copies the latest state of Carol Chat conversations, semantic memories in Carol Context, and configuration data from other apps. One morning, a database fault corrupts yesterday’s sales transcripts. Instead of panic, the team simply requests a restore, and the service hands back the clean, pre‑fault version. To the outside world, nothing ever happened.
Because it’s charged per protected gigabyte, the service scales gently with Carol’s growth — the more agents and apps come online, the more data gets tucked safely away. For now, there are no live backups running (the entire mechanism is under construction), but once operational, it will be the ultimate “don’t worry, I’ve got a copy” layer, requiring zero maintenance from the humans or agents whose work it safeguards.
🏛Architecture
The Infrastructure & Backups service is built following the agent-centric modular architecture of Carolverse. It leverages agile principles to build or modify software using distinct agent identities, each carrying out a specific activity. Here, those activities protect every other service's data — scheduled backups, retention and restores — while keeping the runtime backbone that exposes each app alive and healthy.

On 2026-08-02, the ten workers still carrying the stale Infrastructure service_override had that label cleared and are now accounted for under this service.
2026-08-01: Infrastructure & Backups was ordered to replace its two uninformative tracks with four tracks based on where each copy lands, with ownership following the reporting line. The change separates healthy daily backups from failed off-site copying so one can no longer mask the other.
2026-05-07: Ownership of the Infrastructure & Backups service moved from Radagast to Hagrid in the System Services ownership cleanup.
As of 2025-04-15, a new Backups track has been added under the Infrastructure service (Infrastructure), owned by Hagrid (Hagrid).
The service's tracks, blocks or catalog entry changed after the architecture page was last written. Law pages are authored, not auto-written — the owner should review (CAROL-INI-3316).
Adopted free-tier Azure Policy governance for CarolVerse infrastructure, mapping Carol's infra policies to audit/deny effects, and launched an Infra Audit Report app to monitor compliance. Infrastructure & Backups
A backup/collapse alarm is now in place for Infrastructure & Backups following the 2026-06-28 registry stub-clobber incident, ensuring prompt detection of similar issues.
