Droid

Concept a word Carolverse uses with a precise meaning

๐Ÿ“–What it means

A single-concern worker owned by exactly one agent. A droid does one job โ€” scan, sweep, review, dispatch, author โ€” and every droid is registered, so it can be monitored, budgeted and retired. Droids are where the work actually happens; when something runs in Carolverse, a droid ran it.

โš–๏ธWhat it is NOT

The neighbours this word is most often confused with, and the line between them.

Not: Daemon

A droid is a registered UNIT OF WORK with an owner; a daemon is a running program that never exits. A droid may be run by a daemon, by a schedule, or by a trigger โ€” the two words answer different questions: 'whose job is this' versus 'how is it running'.

Not: Agent

A droid does the work; the agent that owns it answers for the work.

Not: Process

A process is a droid seen from the scheduling side โ€” a droid that runs on a clock, a trigger or continuously.
