About

The PII & Retention Scanner is a scheduled droid owned by Var that keeps user data handling honest across Carol's ecosystem. Every day at 4:45 AM it does three things: finds personally identifiable information (PII) that shouldn't be lingering in data stores, enforces retention rules so data is deleted once its allowed lifetime expires, and checks user memory isolation โ€” verifying that one user's memories never leak into another user's space. It exists so privacy and retention promises are enforced by automation rather than by someone remembering to look.

It runs on a fixed schedule (cron: 45 4 *) via Scheduled Processes. It is pure software: its source makes no calls to Claude, so every run is deterministic and costs no model tokens. Its checks support the Security and Governance services and quietly uphold Carol Policies.

The droid is unique โ€” there is exactly one "PII & Retention Scanner", and it is not part of a standard reusable droid family. Its registry family shows as "(none)", a catch-all bucket shared by 222 custom droids that agents across the Carolverse run independently; those are individual one-off builds, not copies of this one. Its owner, Var, is responsible for acting on whatever it finds.
