About

App Steward (stw-014) is a scheduled maintenance droid owned by Guardian. Its job is to keep Guardian's registered apps alive: on each run it detects which of those apps have gone down and relaunches them. It exists because apps can stop responding at any hour, and waiting for a person to notice wastes time and availability.

The droid is one instance of a shared family rather than bespoke code. Each app-steward droid calls the same shared app-liveness mechanism (shared/app_steward.py), scoped to its own owner's apps, so every steward watches exactly the apps its owner is responsible for.

It is not a one-off: 19 app-steward droids run across Carolverse, and 18 of them share the exact name "App Steward". It is pure software โ€” its source contains no Claude calls and it runs without an LLM โ€” so it is cheap, deterministic, and fully automatic. The family is documented in the Droid Families app.
