About

The Message Handler droid is the gateway for incoming customer messages from the Agent Chat service. It exists so that Carol can read what customers say and decide how to engage. (Although mh-01 has since been retired and its role merged into a newer message-handler, its original job is the blueprint for that flow.)

When a new Agent Chat message arrives, mh-01 validates it, extracts the sender details and message content, then calls a Claude Haiku model to interpret the user’s intent. The interpreted message is handed off to Carol’s processing pipeline. The droid never sends replies, manages accounts, or stores history — it only listens and passes along what it understands.

mh-01 is owned by Carol and is not a one-off. It’s a standard, reusable worker droid; the worker family is used by 30 droids across agents like Albus, Clara, and Elrond. While much of its work is pure software, the vital message‑interpretation step calls Claude (haiku), making it a hybrid droid with an AI brain.
