📖About & Usage

About

Ledger is the droid that keeps Midas informed about how much the Carol ecosystem is really spending in Azure. It exists because budgets are guesswork without live data, and Midas needs a clear, scheduled feed of actual cloud costs to stay on top of the Carolverse’s financial health. Ledger regularly collects Azure spending figures, records them in a persistent history, compares current bills thresholds, and fires off an alert the moment spending strays into overspend territory.

The droid doesn’t block or cut off spending; it simply provides visibility and timely warnings, making it a silent lookout rather than an enforcer. All its findings feed directly into Midas’s decision-making loop, giving him the numbers he needs to adjust plans or flag trouble.

Ledger is a unique droid — there’s only one and it belongs solely to Midas. While it’s part of the broader intelligence family (a set of 25 droids that also serve agents like Albus, Archon, Athena, and others), it is not a reused template with identical copies; its exact name and purpose are one of a kind. Ledger calls Claude (Sonnet) to analyse the raw cost data it collects and to turn dry numbers into clear, actionable overspend alerts — so Midas never has to read a spreadsheet just to know when things are going sideways.

🛰️Updates

Fix2026-08-04

2026-08-04: Ledger now records speech, image, and video generation costs as governed spend, closing omissions that hid substantial provider usage.

Fix2026-07-26

Since 2025-04-08, Monitor now uses tail-read caching when accessing the Ledger, avoiding full scans and improving performance.

New Capability2026-07-25

Now records per-image generation costs for Scriber as cost rows under the Scriber agent.

New Capability2026-07-25

Ledger now contains historic image-generation cost entries for Scriber, providing a complete spend record.

Change2026-07-24

Orion workspace now reads from Ledger instead of the Logbook, so it reflects real-time bypass steps and decisions across sessions.

Change2026-07-10

The activity ledger Ledger now uses canonical agent IDs uniformly, replacing mixed lowercase names and pseudo-droid labels. This affects logging for the planner Governance and bypass reports.

Fix2026-07-08

The ledger must now capture Orion's laptop-side Claude Fable costs, which were previously missing, to comply with the Ninad ruling CLI-024 and the shared rate card of Cost Center.
