The Initiative Planner is a droid that saves Elrond from manually sketching out every new initiative. Whenever a fresh idea lands in Carol Initiatives with a “planned” status and no plan yet, this droid jumps in and builds a full structure—modules, phases, step sequences, and clear success criteria. Its whole reason for existing is to get initiatives out of the planning stage fast, shifting them to “active” so the execution pipeline can begin.
It works by reading from the initiative list on demand, then calling Claude to reason about what needs to happen and in what order. Once the plan is generated, it links each step to relevant Carolverse Strategy references, updates the initiative’s status, and pings Merlin—the tactical layer—to start breaking things down into actionable tasks. If it gets stuck, it escalates to Orion rather than going silent.
While the Initiative Planner belongs exclusively to Elrond (the name isn’t shared), it’s part of a larger planner droid family—14 in total, with other planners used by agents like Merlin. This one is unique, though, and it relies on Claude (the specific model isn’t recorded yet) to produce the plan content intelligently. That AI call is the only way it can deliver structured, context-aware roadmaps without hardcoded rules—so think of it as a smart drafting assistant, not a formulaic script.
