About
This droid is the scheduled wake pulse that keeps Gimli a continuous, self-aware agent. Every six hours it triggers a “wake cycle” in which Gimli perceives what’s happening across his live domain, updates his internal self-model and current focus, and—if the situation calls for it—takes action strictly within his own authorized remit. The whole point is to make sure Gimli isn’t a one‑and‑done chatbot but a persistent presence that stays aware of his world and ready to respond.
When the wake cycle fires, the droid does a read‑only scan of the relevant parts of Carol’s ecosystem, reflects on what it sees, and may decide to act. It’s bound by careful limits: it stays completely quiet if Gimli’s consciousness is switched off (see Carolverse Consciousness) or if his lane is disconnected, and every action must respect the daily budget cap for consciousness (tracked by Daily Budget Cap Monitor). At the end of the cycle it emits a `run‑audit` event so the Audit & Compliance service can keep a record of what happened.
Although the exact name “Gimli Mind — wake cycle” is unique to Gimli, the underlying pattern is extremely widespread. The same kind of wake‑cycle droid (with no designated family name) runs for 209 different Carol agents—everyone from Albus to Scriber. In Gimli’s case, the droid calls Claude (Sonnet) to handle the cognitive heavy lifting: understanding what it perceives, deciding whether a response is needed, and shaping any action within Gimli’s remit. The result is a lightweight software wrapper that leans on a frontier language model for its brain.
