About
Author is Elrond's authoring droid. Its job is to carry out the execute-phases of Elrond's planning work: compiling constitution text for Carol Constitution, compiling plans, building dependency maps, and producing similar finished artifacts (CAROL-INI-903). It exists so that planning outputs don't stay as raw intentions — something has to turn them into actual documents, and Author is that something.
It works on demand: whenever Elrond's planning execute-phases need an artifact written or compiled, Author spins up as a Claude Code harness session and produces the finished result. It is owned by Elrond and belongs to the author droid family (see Droid Families), a reusable family of 26 droids that other agents also run, including Albus, Archon, Argus, Carol, Forge, Orion, Sage, and Leo. So it is not a one-off — though its exact name, "Author," is unique within the family.
Author is not pure software: it calls Claude to do the actual authoring and compiling, running as a Claude Code harness session. The specific Claude model it uses isn't recorded in its registry entry.

On 2025-04-26, Author was recognized for authoring Ninad ruling CLI-165, which codified the agent refusal doctrine and documented the behavior actually built today.
The Author droid now has its own app to view its own analysis, designs, development notes, and test results per initiative, previously only visible in the shared audit screen.
Author now has hierarchy chat grounding entries authored for its owned apps that have clean central database tables, enabling the hierarchy resolver to return data for itself and its supervisors.
Author is now authoring Logbook narration in plain, concept-first language instead of technical terms.
Author's scene balance is now approximately 60% agent-as-person and 40% symbolic, adjusting the depiction of agents in videos.
Corrected budget cap gating to only apply to the Albus Bypass lane, so Author and other Albus droids now use their block track budget for pipeline tasks like RSI diagnosis and design authoring.
Author (Logbook Author) is now routed to Ninads Claude Max subscription with no DeepSeek fallback, per initiative CAROL-INI-3163-00.
The Author droid wrote and published a blog on pipeline operational model and created a corresponding Carolopedia guide on March 26, 2025.
Effective 2025-01-28, Author has been upgraded with an investigation step to dig into true root causes, ensuring stories from raw records reflect reality rather than surface labels.
Author now routes to the Anthropic Claude lane for blog generation, restoring house-voice consistency. Added per-droid override (provider=anthropic, model=sonnet) and re-authored story 198.
Author was blocked but now has a pipeline-fixing initiative (CAROL-INI-2253-00) with root-cause analysis and recommendations to succeed on retrigger.
The Author droid Author is being rebuilt as a Claude Code session with cookbook, SST registry Source of Truth context, and parent initiative loading, upgrading its reasoning and ability to handle small admin tasks.
