📖About & Usage

About

Builder is Merlin’s autonomous tool‑scaffolding droid. It exists to keep Pipeline moving without delays: whenever a task needs a new tool, Builder picks up the request within 60 seconds and delivers a ready‑to‑use tool. This eliminates the manual coordination that would otherwise be needed — Merlin never has to create a bespoke tool by hand just to unblock a workflow.

Builder works by polling a dedicated request queue every minute. When a build request arrives, it matches the request to a scaffolding template and calls Claude (haiku) to generate the actual tool code. The finished tool drops straight into Merlin’s Pipeline for immediate dispatch. Builder only creates new tools; it does not upgrade, maintain, or review existing ones (that’s handled separately), and it makes no design decisions — it strictly applies templates to fulfil each explicit request.

Builder is owned by Merlin (Merlin). Although it belongs to the worker droid family (see Droid Families), which is used by 30 droids across agents like Albus, Carol, Elrond, and many others, the name “Builder” is unique — no other agent runs a droid with this exact name. Builder is not a pure software process; it relies on Claude (haiku) for the intelligent scaffolding step, while the templates keep its output firmly within approved patterns.

Fix2026-07-30

The builder droid now correctly attaches its agent's memory (Mind) to model calls, ensuring the agent's personality and context persist during work. Builder

Fix2026-07-30

2025-04-10: The query builder now receives the identity of the person asking, enabling resolution of first-person queries that previously fell back to guessing or refusal. Affects Carol.
