Step Design Author is a droid owned by Archon. It exists to fill the gap between specification and implementation: it authors the per-step design that sits between Sage's spec and Forge's build work. It is triggered on demand rather than running on a schedule.

When a step needs a design, the droid takes the relevant spec input and produces the design document that Forge can build from. It calls Claude for this authoring work, using the haiku model, so it is not pure software — the actual design text generation is handled by Claude.

The name "Step Design Author" is unique, and it belongs to no named droid family. It is one of 222 unclassified droids in the registry with the family marker "(none)", and other agents run similar unclassified droids, but this particular droid is a one-off owned by Archon.
