App Handbook

App The manual for Carolverse apps: what every displayed number and data attribute on every app actually MEANS, in plain language, with its code-level source โ€” including why two apps can legitimately show different numbers for the same idea (completed vs worked). Backed by the registry app_handbook table; a displayed metric without a handbook row is a defect. For what a TERM means (agent, droid, daemon, service), see the Data Dictionary.

๐Ÿ“–About & Usage

About

Ever stared at a dashboard number and wondered what it's actually counting? The App Handbook is Carolverse's answer. It's the plain-language manual for the ecosystem's apps: what every number, status, and other data point on screen actually means, where the value comes from, and how it was worked out. If one screen says "12 completed" while another says "9 worked" for what sounds like the same thing, this is where you learn that both are right โ€” they measure different moments of the same work.

Owned by Clara (Clara), it sits with the governance apps โ€” the family that keeps Carol's records trustworthy โ€” and is kept behind a login. It also acts as a quality tool: any displayed figure without a matching explanation is treated as a defect, a sign the system changed faster than its documentation. Live since August 2026. For what a term means โ€” agent, droid, daemon, service โ€” see the Data Dictionary; the Handbook covers numbers, the Dictionary covers words.

Usage Patterns

Reach for the App Handbook whenever a number on a Carolverse app gives you pause. Compare the Carolverse Task Tracker with the Carol Intelligence dashboard, for instance, and they may report different completion totals for the same initiative. Instead of guessing which is wrong, open the Handbook: it explains what each metric counts and why both can legitimately differ โ€” a confusing mismatch becomes a quick lesson in measurement.

Builders and reviewers use it too: before a new screen ships a figure, there should be a handbook entry explaining it, and as the ecosystem grows, the Handbook grows with it. A number without an explanation is itself a finding โ€” documentation keeping pace with machinery, one entry at a time.
